Prepare this spice-filled Mulled Wine on the stove, then transfer to a slow cooker to keep it warm during your party or holiday gatherings.
Mulled Wine
Serves: Approximately 5 servings
Ingredients
- 1 (750-milliliter) bottle red wine, such as Zinfandel
- 1 cup apple cider, such as Martinelli’s
- 3 (2-inch) strips orange zest
- 1⁄3 cup fresh orange juice
- 2 (2-inch) strips lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1⁄4 cup honey
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise, seeds scraped and reserved
- 6 whole peppercorns
- 4 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 slices peeled fresh ginger
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 1⁄4 cup brandy
- 1⁄4 cup orange liqueur, such as
- Grand Marnier Garnish: lemon slices
Instructions
- In a small Dutch oven, combine wine, cider, orange and lemon zest and juice, honey, vanilla bean and reserved seeds, peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon sticks, ginger, and anise. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 minutes.
- Just before serving, strain mixture. Discard solids. Return mixture to pan. Stir in brandy and orange liqueur. Keep warm over low heat. (Do not let mixture boil.) Garnish individual servings with lemon, if desired.
